MEDAL OF HONOR: ALLIED
ASSAULT - BREAKTHROUGH (Published by EA Games)
PC
Breakthrough was the second expansion
pack to Allied Assault, co-developed by TKO Software and EALA. This was my first project as single player
design lead, and my responsibilities grew and evolved over the course of
development. I participated in the
initial brainstorming and creation of the Game Design Document, working with
the TKO Design Team to focus level descriptions and objectives. I also trained the TKO Design team in the
usage of the Radiant level editor and Ritual scripting language. As development proceeded, it was my
responsibility to review and evaluate milestones, generating feedback for
gameplay balance, tuning, and refinement.
During beta, my responsibilities expanded even further as I directed
both the TKO and EALA development teams to get the game ready for ship. During this time I helped balance the overall
difficulty, refined AI placement, level layouts, player resources (ammo,
health, weapons), and reworked objective text and dialogue.
Breakthrough was a challenging project -
definitely my baptism by fire as a creative design lead, but overall it met the
intended goals of the project (to provide a lengthier, more challenging
expansion than Spearhead) and it was an experience that I learned a great deal
from.
